34The White Ox勘辨
師問杏山：「如何是露地白牛？」山云：「吽吽。」師云：「啞那。」山云：「長老作麼生？」師云：「這畜生。」
Linji asked Xingshan, "What is the white ox standing in the open field?"
Xingshan said, "Moo. Moo."
Linji said, "What, are you mute?"
Xingshan said, "And you, Elder? What would you say?"
Linji said, "You animal."
