100Langya's Mountains and Rivers

Introduction

One sentence can raise up a nation. One sentence can ruin it. The same medicine that heals can kill; the same that kills can heal. The benevolent see it and call it benevolence. The wise see it and call it wisdom. So tell me: where does the help or the harm come in?

A monk asked Master Langya Huijue, "All is originally pure and clear. So why do mountains, rivers, and the whole earth suddenly come into being?"
Langya said, "All is originally pure and clear. So why do mountains, rivers, and the whole earth suddenly come into being?"

Verse

He sees that what is there is not. Turns his hand palm up, turns it down. The man inside Langya's mountains falls not a step behind the Buddha.
